This notebook keeps things light on the reader's side of the screen. Here is the whole picture.

Accounts and data you give us

The site runs without accounts. There is nothing to register for, nothing to log into, and no profile to fill in. If you write to the desk through the contact form, we receive your name, your email address, and your message, and we use them to reply to you. Correspondence that turns into a source or a correction may be kept in our working files, and we keep those files among the three of us.

Trackers and advertising

We run no home-grown trackers and we place no advertising scripts of our own. We collect no behavioural profiles, and we have nothing to sell to anyone about you. If a page embeds an external player or map, that provider applies its own practices when you interact with it; we keep embeds to a minimum and name them where we use them.

Hosting logs

Like nearly every site on the web, our hosting provider keeps technical logs, IP addresses, timestamps, pages requested, browser type. These logs exist for the security and operation of the site. We read them only in aggregate or when something looks broken, and we never cross them with correspondence.

Your choices

You can read the entire site with cookies blocked and a VPN on, and it will serve you just the same. If you wrote to us and would like your message deleted, write again through the contact form and say so; we will remove it and confirm.
